What is Nitrolingual Pumpspray used for?

Nitrolingual Pumpspray0.4mg is used to treat acute attacks of angina pectoris to relieve symptoms including chest pain and breathlessness on exertion; also for prophylaxis to prevent an angina in response to activities or situation known to trigger angina, like physical effort, emotional stress or exposure to cold. Using Nitrolingual Pumpspray 5-10 minutes before embarking on a trigger situation will help manage angina and prevent acute symptoms. Angina is usually an indication of coronary heart disease (CHD) cause by clogged arteries in the heart (atherosclerosis). Nitrolingual Pumpspray is intended for sublingual use and is absorbed through the skin under the tongue so that it takes effect rapidly within a few minutes, to relieve or prevent symptoms of angina.

How does Nitrolingual Pumpspray work?

Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg contains glyceryl trinitrate (or nitroglycerine), a potent vasodilator used to relax and widen peripheral arteries and veins, to reduce and relieve symptoms of acute angina. Angina is caused by insufficient blood to the heart due to a reduction of blood flow. This is usually caused by narrowing of the arteries of the heart (coronary arteries) because of a blockage due to deposition of cholesterol in the vessel walls (atherosclerosis). Glyceryl trinitrate in Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg is converted to nitric oxide in the blood vessel walls and this acts directly on the vascular smooth muscle (in the blood vessel walls) causing them to dilate and widen. This action reduces the resistance to blood flow in the peripheral veins and arteries which means that the heart does not need to work so hard to pump blood, reducing its workload and also the need for oxygen. Glyceryl trinitrate in Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg also causes widening of the coronary arteries, which helps get more oxygen to the heart muscle and relieves symptoms of acute angina attack including pain in the chest, referred pain to the arms or neck and breathlessness on exertion. Glyceryl trinitrate in Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg is absorbed through the lining of the mouth under the tongue directly into the blood, to provide rapid relief from angina symptoms.

What does Nitrolingual Pumpspray contain?

Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg contains the active ingredient glyceryl trinitrate, used to treat and prevent symptoms of angina. It also contains peppermint oil, ethanol, medium chain triglycerides (as fractionated coconut oil), medium chain mono-and diglycerides.

Treating angina with Nitrolingual Pumpspray

Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg is a sublingual medication (absorbed under the tongue) that contains glyceryl trinitrate (or nitroglycerine) and is used to treat angina pectoris to treat acute angina attacks and relieve symptoms including chest pain and breathlessness on exertion. What are the side effects of Nitrolingual Pumpspray?

The most commonly reported side effects when taking Nitrolingual Pumpspray include: headache, low blood pressure (hypotension), drowsiness, dizziness, light-headedness, fainting (syncope), facial flushing, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia), local burning or tingling sensation in the mouth.

When should Nitrolingual Pumpspray not be used?

You should not use Nitrolingual Pumpspray if you:

• are allergic to glyceryl trinitrate (or nitroglycerine) or any ingredients in Nitrolingual Pumpspray or have an have idiosyncratic reaction (rare and unpredictable) to organic nitrates
• are pregnant or are breastfeeding, without discussion with your doctor
• have cerebrovascular disease, cerebral haemorrhage or head trauma
• abnormality of the heart valves or heart muscle
• lung disease like fluid on the lungs
• have angina caused by hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle
• have severe anaemia
• have pronounced hypotension (very low blood pressure) or hypovolaemia (low blood volume)
• are taking medicines that interact with Nitrolingual Pumpspray, including: phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors like sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, long-acting nitrate for angina, calcium channel blockers for high blood pressure, diuretics for oedema, antipsychotics, alcohol, tricyclic antidepressants

What medications interact with Nitrolingual Pumpspray?

Several medications interact with Nitrolingual Pumpspray and should either not be taken while you are taking Nitrolingual Pumpspray or only after discussion and instruction from your doctor:

• Drugs that cause a serious reaction by reducing blood pressure with Nitrolingual Pumpspray: phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors like sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, calcium channel blockers for high blood pressure, alcohol, diuretics for oedema, antipsychotics, alcohol
• Drugs that affect Nitrolingual Pumpspray: calcium channel blockers for high blood pressure, alcohol, diuretics for oedema, antipsychotics, alcohol
• Drugs that are affected by Nitrolingual Pumpspray: tricyclic antidepressants

How should Nitrolingual Pumpspray be taken?

You should take your Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg when you feel an angina attack coming on by spraying one dose (0.4mg) under your tongue. If after 5 minutes you do not feel any relieve from symptoms, use another dose. You should use the Nitrolingual Pumpspray while sitting down and direct the nozzle under your tongue to spray. Do not inhale the spray and hold your breath while pressing down on the button to actuate the spray.

How long should you take Nitrolingual Pumpspray?

You should use a Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg as soon as you feel the symptoms of an acute angina attack and you should start to feel relief within a few minutes. You can also use your Nitrolingual Pumpspray 0.4mg to prevent an angina attack if you are about to do an activity that can bring on an attack, such as just before exercise or stressful situations.

How should Nitrolingual Pumpspray be stored?

You should store your Nitrolingual Pumpspray below 25°C in a cool dry place and protect from heat and light.
