Noroclav general information

What is Noroclav used for?

Noroclav tablets 50mg a combination antibiotic used for short-term treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections in cats and dogs, including skin disease, such as deep and superficial pyodermas; soft tissue infections, such as abcesses and anal sacculitis; dental infections such as gingivitis (infection of the gums); urinary tract infections; upper and lower respiratory tract infection; enteritis (inflammation of the small intestine).

How does Noroclav work?

Noroclav tablets 50mg contain a combination of two antibiotics. Amoxycillin is as an antibiotic similar to penicillin and belongs to the beta-lactam group of antibiotics, which block the formation of the bacterial cell wall and this kills the bacteria. However, amoxycillin can be inactivated by the bacterial enzyme beta-lactamase that makes those bacteria resistant to amoxycillin. Clavulanic acid is an antibiotic structurally related to the penicillins that is able to inactivate a wide range of beta-lactamase enzymes commonly found in amoxycillin-resistant bacteria. This dual action of Noroclav tablets 50mg provides a broad spectrum antibiotic and a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which extends the range of susceptible bacteria. Noroclav tablets 50mg are effective against a wide range of bacteria, including susceptible Staphylococci and Escherichia coli, and are used to treat infections common to dogs caused by these bacteria, including infections of the skin, urinary and respiratory tract and digestive system.
