Bosvate general information
What is Bosvate used for?
Bosvate tablets 10mg are used to treat a variety of conditions of the cardiovascular system including control of essential hypertension, (high blood pressure with no identifiable cause and usually no symptoms) by lowering blood pressure to reduce the risk of complications such as stroke and heart attack. Bosvate tablets 10mg are also used to treat chronic stable of angina (chest pain) in patients with heart disease; also mild to moderate chronic heart failure in elderly patients, with reduced systolic left ventricular function, by helping weakened heart muscles pump more efficiently, reducing feelings of breathlessness on exertion. Bosvate tablets 10mg can be used in addition to other standard medications for heart failure, including ACE inhibitors, diuretics and cardiac glycosides.
How does Bosvate work?
Bosvate tablets 10mg contain bisoprolol, which belongs to a group of medications called beta blockers. Bisoprolol in Bosvate tablets 10mg is a selective beta1-receptor antagonist, which means that it blocks the action of chemicals like adrenaline (epinephrine) that are released by the adrenal glands in response to nerve stimulation (for example due to stress) and work via beta-receptors to increase heart rate and constrict (narrow) blood vessels. Binding of Bisoprolol in Bosvate tablets 10mg to the beta receptor inhibits the effects of adrenaline, which slows the heart rate and dilates (widens) blood vessels and reduces resistance to blood flow in peripheral blood vessels. This vasodilation lowers blood pressure and increases blood flow and oxygen to the heart, which in turn decreases demand by the heart for oxygen, reduces the workload on the heart (force needed to pump) and helps the heart beat more regularly. Beta-receptors are found in many tissues, particularly the heart, kidneys, vascular smooth muscle in blood vessel walls, lung, skeletal muscle and liver. Bisoprolol in Bosvate tablets 10mg works by selectively blocking stimulation of beta1-receptors by adrenaline, with very little effect on the beta2-receptors on smooth muscle of airways and blood vessels and, therefore, clinical benefit is due to its action as a beta1-receptor antagonist. These actions of bisoprolol in Bosvate tablets 10mg reduce symptoms and improve the quality of life in patients with heart failure, including reducing feelings of breathlessness; they also help control blood pressure in patients with hypertension, reducing risk of cardiovascular disease.
What does Bosvate contain?
Bosvate tablets 10mg contains the active ingredient bisoprolol, a beta blocker used to treat hypertension, chronic angina and chronic heart failure. They also contain cellulose microcrystalline, silica colloidal anhydrous, croscarmellose sodium, sodium starch glycolate (type A), magnesium stearate.
Treating high blood pressure (hypertension) with Bosvate
Bosvate tablets 10mg contain bisoprolol, a selective beta1 blocker or beta-receptor antagonist that is used to treat essential hypertension (high blood pressure with no identifiable cause and usually no symptoms). Bisoprolol in Bosvate tablets 10mg works by selectively blocking the action of chemicals like adrenaline (epinephrine) released by the adrenal glands in response to nerve stimulation (for example due to stress). Adrenaline stimulates beta-receptors in blood vessel walls, causing blood vessels to constrict (narrow) which reduces blood flow and raises blood pressure. These actions of bisoprolol in Bosvate tablets 10mg cause widening of the blood vessels (vasodilation), slow the heart rate and reduce resistance to blood flow in peripheral blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure and reduces risk of cardiovascular disease due to high blood pressure.
Bosvate for chronic heart failure
Bosvate tablets 10mg contain bisoprolol, a selective beta blocker or beta-receptor antagonist that is used to treat stable mild and moderate chronic heart failure. Bisoprolol in Nebicip tablets 10mg binds to the beta receptors in the heart to reduce heart rate and widen blood vessels which reduces the force needed for the heart to pump blood around the body. This helps lower blood pressure and helps weakened heart muscle, such as in congestive heart failure, to cope better and work more efficiently to reduce symptoms of breathlessness on exertion.
Bosvate for chronic heart disease
Bosvate tablets 10mg contain bisoprolol, which is a beta-blocker and acts by blocking the action of chemicals called catecholamines, such as adrenaline (epinephrine), which are released by the adrenal glands in response to nerve stimulation during physical and mental stress. Bisoprolol in Bosvate tablets 10mg works through a common mechanism in several different body systems to manage the condition and relieve symptoms by reducing heart rate, workload on the heart (force needed to pump) and oxygen demand by the heart, which increases blood flow and lowers blood pressure. These actions help the heart to cope better, reducing symptoms of breathlessness on exertion and reducing the risk of complications such as stroke and heart attack, due to high blood pressure. Bosvate tablets 10mg are used to treat a variety of conditions of the cardiovascular system to improve survival, reduce symptoms and improve the quality of life in patients with heart disease, including, control of hypertension (high blood pressure), management of chronic stable angina (chest pain), and treatment of heart failure.
What are the side effects of Bosvate?
The most commonly reported side effects when taking Bosvate tablets 10mg include, feeling weak and tired (asthenia), cold hands and feet, hypotension (slow blood pressure), slow heart beat (bradycardia), oedema (water retention with swollen ankles), nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, visual disturbances.
When should Bosvate not be used?
You should not use Bosvate tablets 10mg if you:
- are allergic to bisoprolol or any ingredients in Bosvate
- are pregnant or are breastfeeding
- have severe kidney or liver disease
