QuicFIP general information
What is QuicFIP used for?
QuicFIP Plus Spot-on is a topical treatment used for the control of fleas, ticks and biting lice in small dogs; also to treat flea allergy dermatitis in dogs. QuicFIP Plus for small dogs is a fast acting monthly treatment that gets rid of existing flea infestations by killing adult fleas within 12 hours and lasts for at least one month, also preventing new flea infestations for up to three months by killing all stages of the flea lifecycle, including egg, larva and pupa. QuicFIP Plus for small dogs also kills all stages of ticks, preventing tick-borne disease transmission as well as biting lice within 48 hours. QuicFIP Plus for small dogs prevents tick infestations for up to one month including brown dog tick, American dog tick, lone star tick and deer tick; also controls paralysis ticks for up to two weeks after application, reducing the risk of tick paralysis, which is caused by a toxin produced by the feeding tick. QuicFIP Plus for small dogs can be used on puppies from eight weeks old and is safe to use on breeding, pregnant or lactating animals. QuicFIP Plus for small dogs is convenient to use and waterproof once dry.
How does QuicFIP work?
QuicFIP Plus Spot-on contains two ingredients, fipronil a broad spectrum topical insecticide belonging to the phenylpyrazole group of insecticides, and methoprene, an insect growth regulator that work together to control fleas, ticks and biting lice in dogs. Fipronil in QuicFIP Plus binds to and blocks the GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid) receptor, which is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the nervous system and this action leads to hyperexcitation and toxicity of the nervous system resulting in disruption of nervous system function. Fipronil in QuicFIP Plus also binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels, which are insect-specific and play an important role in regulation of insect movement, feeding and sensory input. The combined actions of fipronil in QuicFIP Plus results of disruption of the insect central nervous system, causing paralysis and death. Methoprene in QuicFIP Plus is an insect growth regulator that works by acting as a juvenile hormone analogue. Juvenile hormone plays a key role in the development of the larval stage of insects but blocks the development of the adult insect by inhibiting the metamorphosis of larval into adult tissues during the pupa stage of the life cycle. This action of Methoprene in QuicFIP Plus attacks all stages of the flea development, thereby, breaking the flea life cycle while it is on the dog’s body and preventing reinfestation. QuicFIP Plus collects in the oils of the skin and hair follicles and spreads evenly over the dog’s body, without being absorbed into the circulation. This enables all newly emerged adult fleas to be killed before they lay eggs and usually before they bite, reducing risk of flea allergy dermatitis, providing long-lasting protection from flea and tick infestation and preventing tick-borne disease transmission.
