Eukroma general information

What is Eukroma used for?

Eukroma cream is used as a skin lightener to reduce the colour of highly pigmented skin due to over production of the pigment melanin, in a variety of skin conditions. These include liver spots or age spots, also known as senile lentigine, that are common in aging skin, freckles, acne scars and other forms of unwanted skin discolouration. Eukroma cream is also used to treat melasma, which are patches of dark skin discoloration that appear on areas of the face and are caused by exposure to the sun, pregnancy and contraceptive hormones.

How does Eukroma work?

Eukroma cream contains hydroquinone a chemical that Inhibits tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in the production of melanin, which is the pigment that gives colour to the skin. Hydroquinone in Eukroma cream works by decreasing the production of melanin pigment in the melanocytes (melanin producing cells) of the skin; as well as increasing the breakdown of melanosomes that contain the melanin. As the amount of melanin produced decreases the darkened skin gradually lightens to match normal skin colour.

What does Eukroma contain?

Eukroma cream contains the active ingredient hydroquinone 4%, a chemical that is used to lighten skin. It also contains sodium metabisulphite.

Inactive ingredients are

Glyceryl monostearate, mineral oil, PEG-25 propylene glycol stearate, polyoxyl 40 stearate, propylene glycol, propylparaben, purified water, sodium metabisulfite, squalane and stearic acid.

Treating skin discolouration with Eukroma

Eukroma cream contains hydroquinone a chemical that is used as a skin lightener to reduce the colour of highly pigmented skin due to over production of the pigment melanin, in a variety of skin conditions. Hydroquinone in Eukroma cream works by Inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in the production of melanin, which is the pigment that gives colour to the skin. This slows down the production of melanin, so that as the amount of melanin decreases the darkened skin gradually fades to match normal skin. The skin conditions that Eukroma cream is effective in treating include, liver spots or age spots, also known as senile lentigine, that are common in aging skin, freckles, acne scars and other forms of unwanted skin discolouration. Eukroma cream is also used to treat melasma, which are patches of dark skin discoloration that appear on areas of the face and are caused by exposure to the sun, pregnancy and contraceptive hormones.

What are the side effects of Eukroma?

The most commonly reported side effects when using Eukroma include skin sensitivity and contact dermatitis. Eukroma cream contains sodium metabisulphite, which can cause severe allergic reaction. A rare effect of long term use is exogenous ochronosis, which is the build up of blue/black pigment in the skin.

When should Eukroma not be used?

You should not use Eukroma cream if you:
  • are allergic to hydroquinone or any ingredients in Eukroma
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • are using benzoyl peroxide, hydrogen peroxide, or other peroxide products with Eukroma, as this combination may cause a temporary darkening of the skin

How should Eukroma be used?

You should test a small amount of your Eukroma cream for sensitivity before use. If after 24 hours you have no reaction you can begin treatment. Clean and dry the area of skin that you want to lighten then apply a thin film of Eukroma cream and rub in well. You should apply your Eukroma cream twice daily for up to 4 weeks before you should expect to see lightening of the skin, but this may take longer to achieve. If you have not noticed any bleaching effect after 3 months, you should stop your treatment with Eukroma cream. After your skin has lightened sufficiently you can continue to apply Eukroma cream as needed to maintain the reduced colour. If you wish you can apply cosmetics, sunscreens, and moisturising lotion on top of the Eukroma cream once it has been rubbed into your skin. You should not apply near the eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes and avoid direct sun exposure.

How long should you take Eukroma?

You should apply your Eukroma cream for up to four weeks before you should expect to see lightening of the skin, but this may take longer to achieve. If you have not noticed any bleaching effect after 3 months, you should stop your treatment with Eukroma cream. After your skin has lightened sufficiently you can continue to apply Eukroma cream as needed to maintain the reduced colour.

Missed application of Eukroma

If you miss a dose of Eukroma apply it as soon as you remember, unless it is time for the next application, then skip the missed dose. Do not apply a double dose.

How should Eukroma be stored?

You should store your Eukroma below 25°C in a cool dry place.
