What is Ultraproct used for?

Ultraproct ointment is a topical treatment for haemorrhoids commonly known as piles (both external and internal), which are caused by veins that have become permanently dilated and swollen. Ultraproct ointment is also used for other painful conditions of the rectum such as superficial anal fissures (tears) and proctitis (inflammation of the anus and lining of the rectum). Ultraproct ointment reduces the pain, swelling and muscle spasm caused by haemorrhoids and other rectal lesions.

How does Ultraproct work?

Ultraproct ointment contains a combination of two medications that are used together as a topical treatment for haemorrhoid, anal itching and small tears. Cinchocaine is a local anaesthetic with analgesic properties (pain relieving) and also relaxes spasm of the anal sphincter. Fluocortolone is a moderately potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, swelling and itching. Ultraproct ointment contains two forms of fluocortolone that begin to work at different times resulting in a biphasic action, which provides longer lasting effect. The combination of two medications in Ultraproct ointment work together to numb the pain, reduce the swelling and relieve the itching associated with haemorrhoids and other rectal lesions.

What does Ultraproct contain?

Ultraproct ointment contains the active ingredients fluocortolone hexanoate (0.95 mg), fluocortolone pivalate (0.92mg) and cinchocaine hydrochloride (5mg) per gram of ointment. It also contains 2-Octyldodecanol, castor oil, hydrogenated castor oil, polyethylene glycol-400-monoricinoleate, citrus-rose perfume oil.

What are the side effects of Ultraproct?

The most commonly reported side effects when taking Ultraproct ointment include: possible skin reaction and if used for long periods, atrophy of the skin is possible due to suppression of new skin growth.

When should Ultraproct not be used?

You should not use Ultraproct ointment if you:

• are allergic to fluocortolone or cinchocaine or any ingredients in Ultraproct
• are pregnant, without discussion with your doctor
• have virus infection such as chicken pox
• have syphilitic processes or tuberculosis in the area to be treated

How should Ultraproct be used?

You should use your Ultraproct ointment to the affected area twice daily and after a bowel motion, but this can be increased to four times daily. Rub into the affected area and if you want to apply Ultraproct ointment deeper, attach the nozzle, insert into the rectum and squeeze the tube. You should continue to used your Ultraproct ointment for seven days initially or as recommended by your doctor. If you need longer use, you should reduce the number of daily applications to once a day, but you should not use for more than four weeks unless advised by your doctor.

Missed dose of Ultraproct

If you miss a dose of Ultraproct ointment, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it is time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose.

How should Ultraproct be stored?

You should store your Ultraproct ointment below 25°C in a cool dry place.
